![]() ![]() Now, select the VirtualBox Extension Pack file you just downloaded and click on Open. From the Extensions tab, click on the add icon as marked in the screenshot below. I think Vbox is a showcase for why Open Source development is better than closed source, at least in certain specific domains like virtual machines. Once the download is complete, start VirtualBox 6.0 and go to File > Preferences. It displays all the benefits of FOSS- including easy access to download, upgrades and updates, multiple sources for troubleshooting on various forums… and users are not totally dependent on a single vendor like VMWare or Parallels. ![]() If, say an inexperienced desktop admin wants to set up virtual machines on Windows, and be equally at ease using, or even just installing, utilizing the same configurations, and especially the exact same images on Linux, Vbox cannot be beat. As far as “Parallels,” -what problems does it address? Does it provide commercial support on a level an Open Source program can’t? I see the potentially opposite problem with Xen and KVM they are difficult to set up and they don’t have the convenience of support from Oracle that VBox has. This is especially notable in security, which many VM users are specifically trying to address. ![]() It’s more like UEFI has many problems and there aren’t enough hacks and crutches and workarounds in Vbox for it. Nonsense! UEFI isn’t such “modern tech” that vbox isn’t “catching up”. ![]()
